Are you looking for the best digital pocket camera out there for close ups? Some people need to get close up for food photography for instance. I saw one question where a lady needed to take pictures of her husband's food creations and wondered how to choose the best camera with the best value.
There are several things to look for if you want to be able to get the best close up photo possible. Here are some things the camera should have. . .
Macro Mode: This is pretty universal among digital cameras these days, so most compact cameras will have this. This mode is usually symbolized by a little flower, but it can vary on different camera models so consult the manual if you don't see a flower. The macro mode generally makes the camera select a large aperture, making sure the subject is in sharp focus but the background is not. For even greater control, choose a camera that allows you to change aperture settings, even when in macro mode (not all will allow this).
Self Timer: Most cameras have this, but check to be sure. This allows you to put the camera on a tripod, set the timer, then hands off! The slightest vibration can blur your picture when doing close up work. (That's why a tripod is important!)
Manual Focus: Choose a camera that allows manual focusing to have greater control over getting a clear shot. It allows you to choose which part of the picture is sharp and which is not.
Macro Lens Attachments: Some compact cameras have accessories for macro photography. If you want to get somewhere between the point and shoot and a digital SLR, this may be the kind of the camera you need to look for.
Generally speaking, Nikon Coolpix cameras deliver some of the best macro pictures without the use of attachments.
